The USDA, Agricultural Research Service, National Center for Agricultural Utilization Research, Plant Polymer Research Unit in Peoria, Illinois is seeking a POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH ASSOCIATE, (Research Mechanical Engineer/Chemical Engineer/Chemist) for a TWO-YEAR APPOINTMENT. A Ph.D. is required. Salary is at the GS-11 level, $66,214.00 – $86,074.00 per year, plus benefits. Citizenship restrictions apply. The incumbent will create new bio-based products from agricultural specialty crops or commodities that are cost- and performance-competitive. The incumbent applies knowledge, and skills to develop new uses for specialty and commodity agricultural raw materials. Techniques used may include any of the following: organic chemistry, polymer chemistry, analytical chemistry, chemical engineering and mechanical engineering. These targeted end uses may include food packaging, construction materials, pesticides, emulsifiers (food or non-food), polymer reinforcing agents and the like.
