An Assistant Research Professor position at the U.S. Naval Academy is available to carry out research under several multi-year funded projects studying the use and application of Ionic Liquids and related systems. These projects are directed at the generation of novel biopolymer and biopolymer composite materials using ionic liquid based processing methods; the chemical, physical, and structural characterization of novel ionic liquids and ionic liquid solvent systems; and the study and use of new ionic liquids as electrolytes for electrochemical power applications.
The position requires a Ph.D. in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, polymer science or related field. While not required, experience with ionic liquid based processing and modification of biopolymers and familiarity with the synthesis and characterization of ionic liquids are desirable. Above all else, what we are looking for is an individual who has very strong laboratory and instrumentation skills, has a strong work ethic, and is a good writer and presenter.
