2019 CELL Division Graduate Student Awards

Nele Zwirchmayr has won the 1st place and Prodyut Dhar has won the 2nd place in the 2019 CELL Division Graduate Student Awards.

Nele works at the University of University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna, under the supervision of Professor Thomas Rosenau, Her research is in close cooperation with companies from the pulp and paper industry. Nele’s work focuses on improving the bleaching of pulp, with special attention directed to the bleaching behaviour of coloured substances, ubiquitously found in the polysaccharide matrix. Her award-winning publication is “Degradation of the Cellulosic Key Chromophore 5,8-Dihydroxy-[1,4]- naphthoquinone by Hydrogen Peroxide under Alkaline Conditions” (J. Org. Chem. 2017, 82, 11558-11585).

Prodyut Dharr work at the Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati, India, under the supervison of Professor Vimal Katiyar. His award winning publication is “Magnetic Cellulose Nanocrystal Based Anisotropic Polylactic Acid Nanocomposite Films:Influence on Electrical, Magnetic, Thermal and Mechanical Properties”.
